ABOUT THE MESSAGE There was no doubt that the man needed help. Poor, handicapped, and virtually alone, there was no help for Bartimeus. His life was as desolate as the bleak county surrounding the Dead Sea. However, Jesus was about to pass his way. Read all about him in Luke 18:35-38.

LESSON ASSIGNMENT Matthew 6:1-34  After teaching about happiness and honoring the Law, Jesus taught about giving, praying and worshipping. God sees everything we do, and he will reward us even for the good work we do that no one notices. How can we anonymously give to someone in need today? What changes need to be made in our prayer life? How can we make worship a higher priority?

PRAYER CONCERNS Martin Sterk, Shirley Lagerwey, Bobbie Lively, Shirley Fekkes

PRAYER FOCUS No has a greater responsibility to pray for you than you do. Asking for God’s good gifts for ourselves is not selfish. Alvin VanderGriend quotes C.H. Spurgeon when he writes, “Whether we like it or not, asking is the rule of the kingdom.” Consider several passages from God’s Word that encourage us to ask of Him: Luke 11:9-10; I John 5:14-15; Matthew 7:11; Philippians 4:6-7; and Hebrews 4:16.

SYMPATHY We express Christian sympathy to Josh and Rashelle Cuperus and family in the death of Rashelle’s grandmother, Jean Laird on March 15th.

SYMPATHY We express Christian sympathy to Doris & Oscar DeVries in the passing of Doris’ brother Herb Hatch on March 7th.

SYMPATHY We express Christian sympathy to the Dooyema, DeJong, and Roosma families in the passing of Rolena’s neice, Gloria Bryce.

THE COMMANDMENTS The sixth commandment prohibits murder. “You shall not murder” (Deut. 5:17). The catechism helps us to understand the words of God about this sixth commandment. “I am not to belittle, insult, hate, or kill my neighbor – not by my thoughts, my words, my look or gesture, and certainly not by actual deeds – and I am not to be party to this in others; rather, I am to put away all desire for revenge. I am not to harm or recklessly endanger myself either. Prevention of murder is also why government is armed with the sword.” Every attack on someone’s life by hatred, or carelessness in thought or word or deed, is condemned by God. Why must we respect and even love all other human beings? Because God made them in his own image. Each human being has a likeness to God.

VBS We have scheduled a VBS volunteer interest meeting for Thursday, April 20th at Sumas CRC. Interested volunteers can come learn about the program “Mighty Fortress” and all the different volunteer opportunities available. VBS is scheduled for June 26th-30th, 9am-12pm. No commitment is required that evening. We will have a follow up meeting the next month for those who feel led to volunteer. This is a great opportunity to help shine a light in our community!
