ABOUT THE MESSAGE Cheating on tests. Cheating on expense forms. Cheating in government. Cheating is everywhere. It isn’t anything new for sure. Back in Genesis we read about two brothers, twins, who had issues. The younger brother cheated his older brother out of his birthright. But he also lied about his identity to his old father. Why do people cheat? Why do people lie? Join us this Lord’s day as we examine an Old Testament story that is relevant and contemporary.

BELGIC CONFESSION Article 3: The Written Word of God – We confess that this Word of God was not sent nor delivered by the will of men, but that holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit, as Peter says in II Peter 1:21. Afterwards our God – because of the special care he has for us and our salvation – commanded his servants, the prophets and apostles, to commit this revealed Word to writing. He himself wrote with his own finger the two tables of the law. Therefore, we call such writings hold and divine Scriptures. As parents it is highly important we teach our children about the Bible and its importance. Some families make it a practice to read the Bible at mealtimes or before bedtime. The important thing is that you read it together. As God’s word flow naturally from our hearts and out of our mouths, we can leave a strong legacy of faith to be passed down from one generation to generation. For your information, 2.5 billion copes of the Bible were printed between 1815 and 1975. However, more recent estimates calculate that number to be around 5 billion according to the Bible Society.

FROM THE WORD Jesus was asked when he would return. Followers of the Lord wanted to know what to look for when it was about to happen. Jesus refused to give his disciples an answer. He merely said, “be prepared.” Theologians for centuries have tried to determine when the “end” will take place. One school of thought came to be known as premillennialism. There will be the great tribulation followed by the second coming of Christ. At Christ’s coming, the Antichrist will be judged, the righteous will be resurrected, Satan will be bound and Christ will establish His reign on earth, which will last for a thousand years and be a time of unprecented blessing for the church. At the end of the millennium, Satan will be released and he will instigate a rebellion, which will be quickly crushed. The unrighteous will at this point be raised for judgement, after which the eternal state will begin. Next week we will highlight Postmillennialism.
